“The lamps are made in collaboration with jewellery designer, Benedikt Fischer, who has his work exhibited in galleries and museums Worldwide. Both Benedikt and I have an obsession for artificial materials. Especially for those which can be manipulated and altered in a way that they transform from a relatively cheap and dull material into a new one. One seems new, unrecognizable, and almost alien. I have been working and experimenting with this material for years now, but this collaboration pushed me to work on a much larger scale, using every bit of leftover from other projects that I had/have laying around the studio. It’s not really recycling, like you see in a lot of other 'design' related projects, But I make sure almost no waste material leaves my studio. Everything is being used. I like to treat my material as 'precious' I am the only one who knows exactly how to make it. In that sense I master my craft. Even though it is plastic, I transform it in to a much higher valued material, comparable to for example minerals. I also like the idea that what I am making, opposed to a lot of other plastic products is not a replaceable item. Every piece is unique...in its layers are hidden unique patterns of bit and pieces of plastic. It’s almost like futuristic - sediment layers. The fossiles of the future.”
