FLORAL INFERNO by LAURIDS GALLÉE

€2,500.00

The floral motif is absolutely dominating in the history of marquetry and of most western ornamentation. As an attempt to free myself from it in form language and iconography i set flames to the (here playfully depicted) stereotype. This is a personal project to explore different forms and illustrative styles.

Laurids Gallée (B.1989) is an Austrian designer based in Rotterdam, Netherlands. From early childhood he was exposed to creative practices, and after briefly studying anthropology, he graduated from Design Academy Eindhoven in 2015.

After working for Chris Kabel, he spent the following year learning different manufacturing techniques, as a craftsman in art and design production. He worked for S.T.R.S., a company specialised in realising designers’ and artists’ projects that require highly technical solutions.

In 2017 he started his own studio in Rotterdam; his work explores traditional and folkloric elements to enter modern materiality, while always considering today’s advanced manufacturing processes to create a contemporary fusion.

MATERIALS :
pine wood, acrylic varnish

DIMENSIONS :
H 25 x 77 x 59 cm

unique piece, handmade in NL, 2018
