SILK VASE by ALBERTO VITELIO

from €190.00

The Silk vase was specially designed for Republica Austral. Inspired by the Savoy vase by Finnish designer Alvar Aalto, the vase is made from a Cahuil wood mould in the last remaining glassblowing factory in Chile.

Silk Vase is born looking for the possibility of manufacturing a product in the last mouth-blown glass company in Chile, Cristalart. The idea was developed for a collaborative project with República Austral, gallery and design studio, established in Lausanne, Switzerland. This vase is inspired in Alvar Aalto and Aino Aalto's Savoy vase. Just like Aalto's first vases is made using a low cost cast (a carved log) unlike the most recents that are made using metallic casts. From this observation I decided to use a cast consisting in metallic bars and a wood block with holes to hold them. This perforations in the wooden block allow to arrange the bars in different positions to create an unlimited number of designs maintaining an unified language between them. In this stage, 20 pieces where made. Mouth blowed by the artisan Raúl Lizama.

Alberto Vitelio is an independent industrial designer from Santiago de Chile. He created his first collection in 2013. Since then he has presented his works in various exhibitions, most recently for Nilufar Gallery at the Salone del Mobile Milano 2019.
